Four Cylinder Club of America History Project

The June 1952 issue of Glendale Chapter’s Exhaust Notes reported on an event held in Apple Valley.  The article does not mention the date and I could find no reference to in in earlier newsletters.  The original plan was for Columbia Pictures to make a film of “the stars and their cars”, with planned attendance by Hollywood movie stars who were to show off their exotic foreign cars.  This aspect of the event was overshadowed, however, by a telethon scheduled for the same day and for the same stars.  But, the film was made nonetheless, using professional equipment run by knowledgeable club members.  The successful weekend included a concours d’elegance, gymkhana, a staged road race, and a dramatized trophy presentation.  Famous race car driver, Ralph De Palma, a member of the Four Cylinder Club of America, served as concours judge and presented the trophies at the end of the day.  For a full report, take a look under Printed Materials, By Chapter, Glendale, Newsletters, June 1952.
