Costa Mesa Time Trials – 8-22-1954 – 500 cc Class Winner

Here is an early trophy for the August 22, 1954 Costa Mesa time trials.  Winner was S. Chambers for a first place finish in the 500 cc class.  Does anyone know who S. Chambers was?  What was he driving?  And, how about some information about the Costa Meas Time Trials.  I have no information on any of the above, so please share your knowledge.

Do you have any other trophies to share?  contact us.and send some pictures.

I was a member of the costa mesa 4 cylinder club in 1954 for about 3 years. We met at the Costa Mesa Women’s Club,
that still exist, at the corner of 18th. St. and Anaheim next to the Costa Mesa downtown park. In 1957 I sold my
MG Midget and bought a XK150 Jaguar and had to leave the club. At the time we had MG’s, Porsche’s, Austin Healy’s and Tramphs. I do not know who S. Chambers was. We had time trials and many timed rallys. We even had a rally trip to Mexico. I think I still have the plaque. I will dig for pictures, but not to hopefull though.

      Hi Gary

You are the first former Costa Mesa member I’ve heard from. This is very exciting and I appreciate the details you included in your comment. If you do come across any dash plaques, photographs, printed materials, etc., please do let me know.

I just purchased a trophy identical to the one pictured except it is for “Mod. over 1500 cc” class won by Tommy Sparks. The trophy is identical, even dated 8/22/54. I too
am looking for information. Thank you for posting guys!

Those old trophies are really cool. I have a small collection of rally trophies from the 1950s. Real wood and no plastic…I love that! If you have a chance, please email me some photos of your trophy. wilkmanracing@aol.com
